Budget is not an evil word, even though most people cringe at the sound of it. In order to fulfill your dreams and reach your goals, you are bound to need a certain amount of money. Remember, without following the perfect budget rules, achieving your goals can become difficult.

It’s better to follow recommended budget strategies to lead a better, tension free life, especially for those people who are experiencing cash shortage. Here are 5 tips to create a personal budget in a proper way.

1. Don’t make your budget too tight or too loose, or you’ll end up saving no money.

2. Gather every financial statement such as bank statements, investment accounts, recent utility bills etc, and analyze your expenses to accordingly plan your budget. See where you can cut down.

3. Break expenses into two categories like fixed and variable.

  • Fixed category includes rent, cable/internet services, credit card payments and so on. These expenses are essential so you can’t change these in the budget.
  • Variable expenses are the type that will change from month to month which includes clothes, gifts, doctor visits and prescriptions, household repairs, and so on. This category will be most important in making adjustments and can be saved upon.

4. Make sure to check that your expenses equal the allotted budget amount. If you are in a situation where expenses are higher than the allotted amount you ought to look at your variable expenses and find where you can cut.

5. Try to review your budget on a regular basis and check whether you are staying on right track. This will help you find where you did well and where you need to improve.
